Three Portrait Studies: Change of Style Change in Time
These are three of my portrait studies. All three are done at different times in my life.
The portrait of the girl was done in 2011. I was 16 years old and life seemed to be going good. I was on the path to becoming what I thought would be an artist. I think one can see in the portrait my own youthfulness and naivety.
In the second portrait (a self-portrait) you can see the anger I felt to life. Classical anxiety existential angst and depression. The portrait tells the story of my own life at that stage. Everything felt like it was falling apart. I think the portrait shows these emotions in the hard lines and dark black background.
The last portrait was done in around 2018 or 2019. Here one might see the more mellow feeling I had. I grew out of the existential angst phase and got more comfortable with life. The lines are softer, and there is a general feeling of calmness. The old age of the man also shines through, which might add to my own feeling of coming of age, or being more wise with time having past.
