A Chinese saying goes something like this:

“Pleasure for one hour, a bottle of wine. Pleasure for one year a marriage; but pleasure for a lifetime, a garden.”

This saying is so true. Emails can wait, watering the garden cannot wait. I worked in the garden for more than 8 hours today. It is hard and taxing work. Playing golf or practicing golf after such long hours is not fun. Making food after such hard work is not fun. We have to persevere and push through it.

Sometimes when you think hard work will not pay off, time will help with understanding. I often question why I do certain things, but afterwards (sometimes long in the future) I realise that my perseverance was needed and good. Sometimes you just have to keep on going. This is obviously not in every case. Listen to your gut.

In any case, a cold beer after work and golf and play is the sweetest fruit of your labour (if you drink beer). I hope you find perseverance even when the mountain feels too high. Stay safe and active.
